"Woke up this morning..." - The Sopranos Theme Song
I was supposed to have a night out of much partying and revelry. I ended up crashed out right after work nursing a queasy stomach. It is now after 4 AM and after watching the premiere of Battlestar Galactica, I've just spent the last 40 minutes obsessing over my Tivo season passes.
I'm a Tivo freak. I owned a book about how to get the most out of my Tivo (which I have since passed on to other Tivo freaks) and so I massage my subscriptions following the good guidelines and making some of my own. My top 5 shows get 3 thumbs up, the next 5 get 2. Everything I watch gets 1. I only thumbs down stuff Tivo suggests that I would never watch (like Rockford Files or Matlock or Nash Bridges) or simply don't want recorded (like late night talk, although I did appreciate Tivo recording that Oprah Dave Letterman episode) and those only get 1 thumb down because, according to the hacks book, Tivo weights thumbs down much heavier. Shows currently in season move up the list, shows in repeat move down. Cartoons come before People's Court (the only daytime syndicated I record) followed by The Daily Show and my ESPN staples (PTI* and the Sports Reporters) followed by the video game review shows X-Play and Judgment Day. Then we get late night fare like Bill Maher, Weekends at the DL and SNL (mostly for weekend update, digital shorts and Robert Smigel).
With most of TV in repeat right now, my favorite show are Sopranos repeats on HBO2. We've just entered season 2 and Livia ain't dead yet. I'm falling in love with the show all over again and am much more excited for the March premiere than I had been.
It isn't #1 on my top 10 though. After all my intense restructuring, the top 10 looks like this:
- Lost
- Veronica Mars
- Cold Case
- Law & Order: Criminal Intent
- The Sopranos
- The Boondocks
- Battlestar Galactica
- Project Runway
- The Office
- True Life
*You'll notice at this point that I've given up on show linking. It's 4:30 in the morning. I really should be having sex at this hour instead of linking to things.
I apparently have issues. Some of them I omitted because I'm planning on taking them off, but this is my favored list:
1. ER
2. Alias
3. 24
4. Grey's Anatomy
5. The Shield
6. Nip/Tuck
7. House
8. Scrubs
9. ST:TNG
10. ST:DS9
That said, I can't wait for the new season of The Shield. Forreal.

What's the name of the Tivo book?
I'll post our top 10 season passes as soon as Afsheen is awake... I'm pretty sure I know what shows they are, but not the order.

EJ loves the doctors.
Outside of The Sopranos, I just realized that everything on my top 10 feature pretty multicultural casts with strong (or, at least well-written in the case of The Office) black characters.
And, I really like women in power positions (Veronica, Cold Case, Criminal Intent, Battlestar, Runway)
There's probably an interesting sociological study that could be done with this.

Tivo #1 is mostly used by the wife and kiddies. It includes Disney shows, American Idol, old NBA All-Star games from years past, and unwatched episodes of Celebrity Poker Showdown.
Tivo #2 is for the grown & shexy so that's where I record Quite Frankly with Stephen A. Smith, movies from Showtime, King of Queens, How I Met Your Mother, 24, and old episodes of Shaquille.

EJ - The Shield with Forrest is Forreal!
Gwen - The book is "How to do Everything with your Tivo" - http://www.allconsuming.net/item/view/2226
Everyone's really up on How I Met Your Mother, huh? I haven't watched since the premiere. I'm not a big sitcom person anymore though. Arrested and The Office are about it. I even gave up on Everybody Hates Chris.

Suit up! It's going to be - wait for it - LEGENDARY!
I love Neil Patrick Harris.
1. Veronica Mars
2. CSI: Miami
3. South Park
4. Robot Chicken
5. Grey's Anatomy
6. Without a Trace
7. Cold Case
8. The Closer
9. Project Runway
10. How I Met Your Mother
With the duel tuner, I don't really have to be obsessive about how I rank the shows, because none of them overlap. I don't know that those 10 are more important than the other ones I tivo - GG, Supernatural, Arrested Development, Ghost Whisperer (SHUT UP), Numb3rs (SHUT UP), and the Daily Show, but it all come sout in the wash.

Wow... until now, I really thought we were the only people in LA watching How I Met Your Mother. Everyone always gives me strange looks when I talk about it. But yes, Neil Patrick Harris is awesome.
Thanks for the book title, Jason!

I don't know what my complete top ten is, but Scrubs is at the top of the list, and I'm glad that NBC finally put it back on the schedule. Also in there are the CSIs (though neither Miami nor NY measures up to the original -- and what the fuck is it with those spinoffs and their too-blatant-to-be-true product placements?), The Office, and Battlestar (again, relief that the drought is over).
I want to watch How I Met Your Mother, but I never seem to get around to programming it.
Also, thanks a lot to NBC for scheduling The Office against CSI. Guess I'll have to rent one of 'em.

I don't have Tivo but I do have a DVR from Time Warner. Same concept. Here is my current list in no particular order.
1. The Shield
2. Monk
3. Stargate SG1
4. Stargate Atlantis
5. Boston Legal
6. Monk
7. Desperate Housewives (I'm secure in my sexuality and it's funny!)
8. The Boondocks
9. Teen Titans
10. Las Vegas
Alias would have been at the top of the list but alas it ins't coming back. I worked on the show in the 3rd season and I still had some friends on the show. Apparently, Jen is in love with being a Mom and is walking away. Most of the crew is working on Nip/Tuck now. I still record the reruns though.
